The Assured Compliance System (ACS) treats continuous flow streams employing “hybrid batch technology” developed by Burt Process Equipment, the leader in pH neutralization systems for over thirty years. The new ACS series neutralization systems accept wastewater on a continuous basis at a flow rate of up to 300 GPM and a pH of 1 – 14.
Unlike typical continuous flow systems, the ACS provides assurance of a properly treated waste stream using freeboard, and flow diversion should an out-of range pH condition occur.
Theory of Operation
The Assured Compliance System treats continuous flow streams employing “hybrid batch technology” developed by Burt Process Equipment, a leader in pH neutralization systems for over thirty years. Typical continuous flow systems fail to provide assurance of a properly treated waste stream during an out-of-range pH condition. To overcome this limitation, the ACS provides a motor-operated valve in the discharge which closes if the pH is out-of-range. Freeboard in the tank allows for up to five minutes of additional retention time. Once treated, the diverter valve opens to resume normal flow. An overflow is provided to divert out of spec effluent to an optional recirculation tank.
The Assured Compliance System includes a multi-chamber treatment tank which provides a minimum of fifteen minutes retention time. A heavy-duty gear mixer provides two reaction tank turnovers per minute to assure adequate mixing with the reagent. The reagents are typically sulfuric acid and caustic soda. However, less hazardous reagents including carbon dioxide and magnesium hydroxide are also available.
Unlike conventional pH neutralization systems the reagent is injected into the recirculation loop via electronic proportional metering pumps. This design provides mixing prior to entry into the reaction chamber and allows for ease of maintenance of the pH electrode. A flow sensor monitors proper operation of the recirculation system. The effluent leaving the process is monitored by a second self-cleaning pH probe and a permanent record of pH is generated by means of a circular chart recorder.
